Eden Education: Earth Day in Hudson, New York

We are happy to have spent our second Earth Day with students at MC Smith Elementary School for their annual Earth Day Celebration.

This year, Megan and Jennifer created two biodiversity activities for the students. First we made pollinator-friendly seed balls using some clay, a Northeast wildflower seed mix, and moistened soil. Here’s the recipe: First, flatten the quarter-sized ball of clay like a pancake. Then, add a sprinkle of soil and seeds. Next, pinch the flattened edges together to create a shell with seeds and soil inside. Finally, roll it together to form a ball. Allow the ball to dry for 24 hours before planting, or throwing it on the ground. Soon you will have beautiful wildflowers for local birds, butterflies, and bees to pollinate.

Next, Jennifer and Megan gathered students into a circle to discuss the importance of local pollinators and how our local community solar farms and their planted seed balls will boost local pollinators in their area.

We look forward to celebrating Earth Day 2025 with Hudson CSD.
