3rd Annual Maple Hill 7th Grade Field Trip
This week, we welcomed a group of 7th graders from Maple Hill Jr/Sr High School to Cedar Hill Community Solar Farm for an educational site visit. The students were eager to leave the classroom to explore and learn about solar energy, sustainability, and local biodiversity.
The visit began with a guided tour of the solar farm, where students learned about the basics of solar energy, how solar panels work, and the importance of renewable energy sources in combating climate change. Sean and Jennifer explained how the solar farm generated clean, sustainable power for the local community, reducing our reliance on fossil fuels and lowering carbon pollution.
Megan explained the importance of creating a pollinator-friendly environment for the local flora and fauna. She pointed out the nearby bee box as a part of a current study with Cornell University. One of the highlights of the visit was the hands-on activity where students had the opportunity to capture, record, and release local pollinators and insects. Students found bees, butterflies, slugs, dragonflies, a variety of birds, and a snake.
Thank you to the Maple Hill Jr./Sr. High School teachers and the wonderful 7th graders for making this site visit a success. Have a great summer!
