2022 Green STEAM Scholarship recipients
Troy-based community solar farm developer Eden Renewables has awarded its 2022 Green STEAM Scholarship to nine local graduating High School Students, with a total value of $10,000.
The recipients are: Ashlee Jensis, Andrew Lensink, Landon Flach, Samantha Dubbelde, and Samantha Malchow of Maple Hill High School, Austin Reed of Hoosic Valley High School, Arianna Camacho of Hudson High School, Christopher Vogt of Duanesburg High School, and Torin Bishop of Brunswick High School.
Students were chosen based on various factors including academic merit, demonstrated leadership in school, participation in community service, work experience, and statement of goals and aspirations.
Samantha Malchow of Schodack, NY, will be attending SUNY Cobleskill where she has been admitted as an Agriculture Business in Science major. A student athlete, STEAM program volunteer, and science enthusiast, Samantha said: “One of the 1st jobs I had was on a farm picking strawberries. I fell in love with agriculture and it truly became my passion…I realized what a great community of people who support their local farms. Something about being able to watch your food grow and being able to feed a community with it. It really makes me look at things differently and how we actually view this planet.”
Torin Bishop of Troy, NY, will attend St. John Fisher College to study sustainability. A lover of the great outdoors, Torin has learned that if we don’t protect it, it won’t last forever. Torin said: “The planet’s health is nowhere near what it could be… this led me to pursue studying the field of sustainability since I want to be a part of the wave of pioneers looking to better the planet we live on.”
Eden’s Green STEM Scholarship Program was established to support students' interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics in fields that benefit the environment, linking to Eden’s community solar projects in each town.
Giovanni Maruca, Chief Development Officer, Eden Renewables, said: “Congratulations to all the students who will benefit from our scholarship program. Our future depends on talented individuals like you going on to work in environmental fields - we wish you every success at College and in your future careers.”
Eden Renewables has 14 community solar farms in development, under construction or operational in Upstate New York/Capital Region.
