New community solar farms approved in Argyle, Schodack and Ballston

Our Bloomfield community solar farm was approved for the field behind the National Grid power corridor.

We are happy to report that our community solar developments in Argyle, Schodack, and Ballston -- Dowmont, Hidden Meadows, Green Dale, and Bloomfield Community Solar Farms -- have been approved by their respective Town and Planning Boards.

Each will have a capacity of 7.5 MW, enough to generate clean energy for the equivalent of about 1,225 average-sized homes or 4,900 in total. This is comparable to planting 40,000 trees that can absorb approximately 1,240,000 pounds of CO2 each year (Source: EPA).

Prior to connecting to the grid, priority subscription will be offered to Argyle, Schodack, and Ballston residents, local governments, and businesses, saving them 10% on their annual electricity bill. In 2021, the average New York homeowner spent about $182/month on electricity. If residents fill all four sites to capacity, the towns can save over a million dollars annually (Source: NYSERDA). Like all of our sites in the Capital Region, these projects will benefit from a native wildflower seeding program creating pollinator-friendly meadows providing new habitat for bees, birds and butterflies. Beehives will be established around the site to provide pollination services to support local farmers and help sustain the state’s $3.6 billion agricultural industry (Source: NASDA). Nesting boxes will be installed along the perimeter to help support local birds and bats. Ecological surveys will be conducted annually to track and continuously improve the site’s biodiversity.

These developments will also establish an annual education fund of $3,000 per project per year towards educational support – $2,000 for site visits and in-school workshops and $1,000 towards the Green STEAM Scholarship – which will be offered to Argyle Central School District, Kinderhook Central School District, and Ballston Spa Central School District.
