Claverack community solar projects win approval

We are happy to report that our community solar developments in Claverack -- Claverack Creek Solar and Catskill View Solar -- have been approved by the Town Board. Each will have a capacity of 7.5 MW, enough to generate clean energy for about 1,225 average-sized homes, or 2,450 in total, almost half the homes in town. This is comparable to planting 20,000 trees that can absorb approximately 620,000 pounds of CO2 each year (Source: EPA).

Prior to connecting to the grid, priority subscription will be offered to Claverack residents, local governments and businesses, saving them 10% on their annual electricity bill. In 2020, the average New York homeowner spent about $108/month on electricity. If Claverack residents fill both sites, the town can save about $317,520 annually (Source: NYSERDA). Like all of our sites in the Capital Region, these projects will benefit from a native wildflower seeding program creating pollinator-friendly meadows providing new habitat for bees, birds and butterflies. The project will establish beehives around  the site to provide pollination services to support local farmers and help sustain the state’s $3.6 billion agricultural industry. Nesting boxes will be installed along the perimeter to help support local birds and bats.. Ecological surveys will be conducted annually to track and continuously improve the site’s biodiversity.

These developments will also benefit from a ring-fenced allocation of $6,000 per year towards educational support--$4,000 for site visits and in-school workshops and $2,000 towards the Green STEM Scholarship--which will be offered to Hudson City Central School District. Altogether, Eden has successfully developed 10 community solar projects in the Capital Region. The other 8 projects in Duanesburg, Glen, Schaghticoke and Schodack are scheduled to break ground starting this spring, subject to the pandemic. Learn more about our solar projects.
